Man, accused of assaulting his mom, may face attempted murder charge, Otter Tail sheriff's official says
DALTON, Minn. - A 46-year-old Otter Tail County man might be charged with attempted murder after his arrest this morning for the alleged assault of his 68-year-old mother.
An ambulance was called near Dalton at 7:51 p.m. Saturday on a report of a severe head injury, which prompted the medical personnel to call Otter Tail County sheriff's deputies, Lt. Matt McGuire said in a news release.
McGuire said Barbara Howard, the mother, was taken to a hospital in Fergus Falls before she was taken by helicopter to Sanford Health in Fargo.
There was no indication of how deputies think that Howard was injured or if a weapon was involved.
Her son, James Howard, was also injured. He had a cut on his neck he said was self-inflicted and was taken to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
The son was arrested at 9:20 a.m., McGuire said, on suspicion of first-degree assault. Attempted murder charges might be pursued, McGuire said.
