Longville man, former trooper dies in car accident not wearing safety belt

A 52-year-old Longville man died Friday evening in a single-vehicle crash in Cass County.

According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol out of Brainerd:

Timothy J. Murphy was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup south on state Highway 84 when he lost control along a curb, ran off the highway and struck a tree.

Murphy, who was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.

The vehicle sustained severe damage.

Also responding to the scene was the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Murphy was a former Minnesota state trooper, a State Patrol spokesman confirmed Sunday.
