No charges in investigation of deceased Proctor teacher

Kyle Neumann

Carlton County authorities said Thursday that the investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by a Proctor high school teacher who died from a self-inflicted gunshot is closed.

Kyle Neumann, a 42-year-old algebra teacher, was found dead in a rural area north of Duluth on Saturday. He had been under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.

Neumann had been missing from his Esko home since Wednesday. His wife, Gretchen, who reported him missing, feared he was suicidal and had a firearm. The disappearance coincided with an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by Neumann that dispatched Proctor police to the high school and middle school. That inquiry subsequently found that alleged misconduct did not happen at Proctor High School.

Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler and Thompson Township police Chief Tom Foldesi said the case has been closed and no charges will be brought against anyone. They declined to comment further on the case.
