Doran, Minn., woman shot dead

A 49-year-old woman was found dead from a gunshot wound Friday morning in her home in Doran, Minn.

Authorities released few details on Friday. Wilkin County Chief Deputy Rick Fiedler said a 911 call came in at 8:44 a.m. and that the woman appeared to be dead from a gunshot.

Stephanie Holding Eagle, 26, of Wahpeton, N.D., said it was her mother, Lori Roberts, who was shot. Fiedler would not confirm that.

Holding Eagle said the family in the area, which includes two other sisters and her aunt, believe Roberts was murdered.

Fiedler said investigators haven't determined if the shooting was a homicide. Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting in the investigation, he said.

Holding Eagle said her family moved to the area in 2000 from California and has little connection to the area - no extended relatives and no enemies.

"There's no ties to anything. She doesn't drink, doesn't smoke. She doesn't hang out at bars," Holding Eagle said.

Roberts would have got off work from her job at a cabinet manufacturer in nearby Wahpeton about 3:30 a.m. Friday, said Holding Eagle. Doran is about eight miles southeast of Breckenridge, Minn.

Roberts' family has been frustrated by investigators, Holding Eagle said. They have been told little and do not think authorities have followed up on information they've provided.

"We've lost a family member, a mother a daughter, a sister, a grandmother. We're hurting here, and we're being treated like - it's really upsetting," she said.
