Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker has been called a lot of things since leading the fight against the Red River's flooding water. But this might be the first time he's been compared to the Energizer Bunny.

Energizer batteries has named Walaker a semifinalist in its contest to find people most like the company's Energizer Bunny - a pink, mechanical, drum-playing bunny that "keeps going and going and going."

Walaker is one of 100 semifinalists and was nominated because "Fargo's Mayor Dennis Walaker fought flooding on the Red River last March and organized volunteers to produce 3 million sandbags. ... During the flood, Walaker led the flood relief efforts and fought to raise the dikes by the Red River," according to a release from Energizer.

The semifinalists will be graded by a panel of judges and narrowed to a group of 10 finalists. The public will choose a winner from the 10 finalists by voting on a Web site, starting June 26. The winner will receive $10,000, another $5,000 to donate to a charity of his or her choice and entry into the Energizer Keep It Going Hall of Fame.

This is the fourth consecutive year Energizer will be honoring someone for having the unstoppable energy, determination and never-quit spirit of the Energizer Bunny.
