Ex-Ransom County sheriff charged amid allegation 'slew'
A former Ransom County (N.D.) sheriff is accused of mishandling property and failing to perform his public duties, including not properly investigating reports of sexual assault and a bank robbery.
James Klinicke was charged Wednesday in Ransom County District Court in Lisbon with misapplication of entrusted property and refusing to perform his duties as a public servant. Both are Class A misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Klinicke resigned Nov. 26, within a couple days of the investigation being launched, said LaMoure County State's Attorney Kim Rademacher, who is prosecuting the case. Complaints from within the Sheriff's Department prompted the investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, she said.
An attempt to contact Klinicke was unsuccessful.
