Another alligator captured

It has been confirmed.

A second alligator in the Brainerd lakes area has been found.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday received a report of a possible alligator sighting in Hardy Lake in rural Pillager -- about 14 miles west of Brainerd.

Officers responded to the area and did in fact locate a small alligator in the lake near the shoreline. The alligator was secured and transported to the Safari North Wildlife Park, just south of Brainerd.

The sheriff’s office and Minnesota DNR Conservation officers received previous reports of the alligator in and around Hardy Lake, but never spotted one until Tuesday.

The first alligator was found July 9 by a Baxter resident who was biking on the paved bike trail in Barrows, which is just south of Brainerd. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to that incident and retrieved the alligator, which was also brought to the wildlife park.

Calls were made to Safari North and an employee said owners were not taking calls from the media.
