Twin Cities sports radio personality Jeff Dubay arrested for suspected meth possession

Twin Cities sports radio personality Jeff Dubay was arrested Wednesday for suspected methamphetamine possession after a traffic stop for speeding in Cottage Grove.

Dubay, 47, was stopped by police around 5 p.m. after he was clocked at 50 mph in a 35-mph zone near a school, according to Cottage Grove police. Dubay was driving after suspension and had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Wright County for no insurance.

During a search as part of his warrant arrest, Dubay was found in possession of two unused hypodermic needles and a small baggie that contained a trace amount of substance believed to be methamphetamine, according to a police summary of the arrest.

Dubay was booked into the Washington County jail for the warrant and for felony fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. He also could face misdemeanor charges for possession of a hypodermic needle, speeding and driving after suspension.

Formal criminal charges were pending. A jail spokeswoman said no court hearing was set for Thursday, but a Friday hearing was possible.

The traffic stop occurred as Dubay was driving westbound on 80th Street at Ideal Avenue, near Park High School. He lives in Cottage Grove.

A longtime co-host on sports radio station KFAN, Dubay was convicted of felony crack cocaine possession in 2009. He was fired from KFAN after the arrest. He later was hired to co-host a show on 1500 ESPN, but in 2014 was let go in what the station described as a cost-cutting move. He runs a sports-themed podcast called the Jeff Dubay Show.
