Victim of abuse wants contact with husband

The victim of a Lake George man charged with spousal abuse asked, through the suspect’s attorney, for continued contact with the man she signed a complaint against.

“His wife is still in contact with him,” public defender Paul Thompson told Judge Paul Rasmussen.

He said the protection order, taken out in California, bans John Defatte from harassing his wife and doesn’t ban all contact with him.

“She didn’t want the DANCO,” Thompson said, referring to a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order.

“The order is not ‘no contact,’ it’s ‘no harassment,’” the attorney continued. “Her step-daughter called the police,” not the victim.

“That’s her desire, to have contact,” the attorney said.

Rasmussen said he didn’t have enough information to issue an order or to dismiss the charges, so he agreed to take the matter under advisement.

Defatte has a history of spousal abuse with another woman.
