NDSU students call out university for no ‘missing student alert’

Several NDSU students are calling out the university's lack of communication after Bearson went missing.

They say most of the student body on campus found out about Tom's disappearance through social media or word of mouth from friends.

In most emergency situations, students say they get text alerts and emails informing them of the situation.

So when one of their own went missing, students were shocked they didn't receive any notification.

Ian Godfrey- NDSU Senior: “NDSU does use that as their main vessel to report on campus emergencies. It was used during the bomb threat we had a couple years ago. It's used for school cancellations, but surprisingly wasn't used when we have a missing person alert. “

The university did send out an email after authorities found Tom's body.

NDSU police and security did not return calls for comment.
