NOAA Special Weather Statement: Burning discouraged Thursday

Barricaded suspect taken into custody Wednesday in Cass Co.

 At approximately 2:50 AM on August 20, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office activated the Emergency Response Unit in reference to an individual barricaded in a residence with a firearm and making threats.   The suspect indicated he had a female hostage with him.  A search warrant was obtained and at approximately 5:40 AM, the search warrant was executed.    After a lengthy negotiation, terms were agreed upon and the suspect surrendered the weapon and both the suspect and hostage were removed from the residence.  The suspect, Christopher Morris-Headbird, age 31, of Cass Lake was taken into custody.  Mr. Headbird remains in custody.  The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Leech Lake Tribal Police, the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Leech Lake Ambulance.
