Task force re-starts Pioneer Park plans

Now that the Park Rapids Council has agreed to develop Pioneer Park, a task force is continuing work on a plan.

Sue Cutler, chair of the city Parks & Beautification Board; city planner Dan Walker, Shari Sanquist, Lu Ann Hurd-Lof and Shannon Henrickson, Touch of Eden Landscaping, are on the task force.

At the November parks board meeting, Cutler said the task force is working with Landscape Structures, the playground equipment company, and Henrickson to design a safe, relaxing and inviting green space on Main Avenue.

A tentative design will be presented at the parks board meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12.

Once a plan is approved by the parks board and city council, fundraising events will begin to add to the Pioneer Park Memorial Fund. The fund has already been established at Citizens National Bank in memory of the late Dawn (Sanquist) Anderson and also for the late Karl Dyre, who had begun to lead the park project before his death about five weeks after Anderson's.

The park design will provide seating space, incorporate small pieces of preschool play structures with a north woods theme and accommodate a performance space facing Main Avenue.
