2010 Park Rapids All School Reunion events planning begins
Planning has been under way for the 2010 Park Rapids All School Reunion with events nearly finalized.
The large community event is slated for Aug. 6-8, 2010.
Dave "Lefty" Anderson, class of '58, is chairing the event. A fundraiser meal Friday night was a successful event, he said.
"We served about 275 meals," Anderson said. "We had Evie Harvala's famous meatballs."
Harvala is from the class of 1960 and her meatballs and gravy are "to die for," according to those who have eaten them.
"We haven't had one of these in 10 years," Anderson said of the fundraiser meal. "This year we have an all-new committee planning the events."
Reunion buttons and apparel were for sale at the Friday night meal at the American Legion as well.
The committee has been meeting for about seven months already and events for next summer's reunion are planned out.
Anderson has attended every reunion since 1990. He enjoys the camaraderie of the events.
An All School Reunion tent will be set up as the meeting place throughout the weekend at the Park Rapids American Legion.
Starting Friday, registration will be at the high school throughout the day. Friday evening meals and get-togethers are up to each individual class but karaoke will be available at the Legion for anyone to participate in.
On Saturday, registration will continue and current and former extracurricular staff will be at the Legion from 1 to 4 p.m. to meet with former athletes and students.
Saturday evening, classes from the 30s, 40s and early 50s will meet at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church starting at 7 p.m. Classes from the early 50s through the mid 70s will meet at the American Legion starting at 7 p.m. Classes from the mid 70s and 80s will meet at the Eagle's Club starting at 7 p.m. Classes from the 90s and up will meet at Zorbaz starting at 7 p.m.
The reunion button will get a person into all the weekend's events.
A choir and band practice will happen sometime during the weekend along with float decorating for Sunday's parade.
Sunday's events will include a Memorial Service at the high school auditorium. The parade will be at noon. A picnic will be at Depot Park.
Anderson encourages alumni to register for the All School reunion at www.prhsreunion.com.
Another fundraising dinner will be in the spring. Money from the fundraisers goes toward paying for the reunion events. Donations can be sent to 2010 All School Reunion, PO Box 505, Park Rapids, MN 56470.
