Laporte man injured in accidental shooting
A 19-year-old Laporte man was injured Monday, Nov. 14 when he accidently shot himself in the leg. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of an accidental gunshot victim at 11:50 a.m. Monday on Osprey Drive near Laporte.
Deputies and medical personal arrived to find the 19-year old man with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to Sheriff Cory Aukes. The investigation showed that the man had been splitting wood with an axe and he had a loaded Ruger .357 revolver in a holster on his hip. As he was splitting wood, a piece of firewood struck the hammer of the gun causing the firearm to discharge in the holster. The man was struck in the leg with the bullet. The victim was alert when officers arrived and was airlifted to a medical facility.
The victim's name has not been released and the incident is being investigated by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
