Construction is underway on a crosswind runway at the Park Rapids Municipal Airport.

Federal funding is paying for the majority of the project, which includes paving and lighting.

The airport continues to see increased traffic and the airport commission is also looking at adding hangar space.

A development plan was being worked on to figure out the best way to move forward.

The airport has had a waiting list for additional hangar space in the past. The city has had requests for additional hangars that aren’t offered now at the airport. A development plan will provide the city with the necessary information to make long range decisions at the airport.

Councilman Dave W. Konshok said it’s been a good year for projects.

Instead of simply building some new hangers, the Airport Commission wanted to have a more comprehensive plan so it can plan for expansion beyond the immediate needs.

It will help with economic development at the airport.

The project is estimated to be completed in 2014.
