Park Rapids firefighters invited the city over for a pork lunch Saturday. The 26 responded to 62 calls in 2012, a total of 1,325 man hours. Saturday they opened their house to the public, answering questions, putting on demonstrations and enticing youngsters into their exciting profession. Little girls screamed as they toured the smoke trailer to find hidden objects. One of the biggest attractions was the fire hose, along with Smokey Bear, the Medivac helicopter and a Fire Prevention Fun House. The 10th annual open house was attended by hundreds. Kids took home “goody bags” of treats and got helpful hints about how to prevent fires and how to escape them if the worst should happen.
