eBooks comes to Kitchigami Regional Library System

Kitchigami Regional Library recently launched an eBooks loan service for patrons, due to high demand.

Library patrons now have the option of checking out eBooks, which are becoming increasingly popular.

The Kitchigami Regional Library System recently launched the 3M Cloud Library eBooks service to all Kitchigami cardholders.

The Park Rapids Area Library offered training Wednesday afternoon for those interested in using the 3M Cloud Library.

"It's more popular than we thought it would be," said Carrie Musselman, branch manager at the Walker Library.

Musselman is traveling to all branches in the Kitchigami Regional Library system to teach library patrons the ins and outs of using the eBook service.

The 3M Cloud Library service can be used with most eReaders PCs and tablets, including Kindle, Nook, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android-based tablets, KindleFire, Smart phones and more.

Musselman assured library patrons that the Kitchigami system would be getting more eBooks in the next few months.

"Right now, the collection is about 800 books," she said. "The board is giving us more money to invest in more eBooks."

Each user can have up to five eBooks checked out at a time and 10 eBooks on hold. The system will notify users when a book they had on hold is available.

eBooks can be checked out for 14 days.

"Since everyone from Brainerd to Blackduck is using it we wanted a short check-out period," she said.

The eBooks automatically disappear after 14 days but users can check in books early as well.

Detailed instructions for downloading eBooks can be found on Kitchigami's website,
