Strong contenders apply for Park Rapids superintendent position

Eight "strong applicants" have expressed interest in the Park Rapids Schools superintendent position to date, with 15 to 20 applications expected by the closing date, chair Sherry Safratowich told school board members Monday.

Glenn Chiodo is retiring after nine years in the role.

Safratowich outlined the timeline, calling for final numbers by June 18. A special board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 25 to review and approve candidates.

The first round of interviews begins at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12 with board members making site visits and conducting interviews in the ensuing days.

The final round of interviews with candidates is slated for Tuesday, July 17.

A representative from BKB, the superintendent search firm hired by the district, is expected to meet with members of Progress Park Rapids at 7 a.m. Monday, June 11 to gather input and create a profile.

Safratowich reported 90 percent of the staff surveys were completed with input consistent with the board's vision.

Jerry Robicheau of BKB indicated to Safratowich that this is "fairly unusual" but Safratowich said she sees it as a credit to the board and superintendent.

In other action, the board:

n Approved eliminating a middle school paraprofessional position due to student numbers.
