Park Rapids schools gearing up for students

Administrators and faculty in Park Rapids are gearing up for school with just a few weeks until school begins Sept. 6.

"Enrollment is solid," said Park Rapids Area Schools superintendent Glenn Chiodo at Monday night's School Board meeting.

The numbers are looking about the same as last year, he added.

"Come Aug. 1 everything goes to warp speed," he said.

Sports and activities started Monday and teachers will have the opening workshop Aug. 31. Cleaning of the buildings is in full swing.

The state funding situation continues to be a sore spot for school districts across the state but Park Rapids is looking good, Chiodo said.

In other business, the board:

n Approved Woodrum Sealcoating to seal coat and paint the parking lots at Park Rapids Area High School and Frank White Education Center, along with re-striping one of the parking lots at Century School and filling cracks at the Century School tennis courts.

The lots need to be re-painted to be compliant with the state on disabled parking spaces, said business manager Carol Hutchinson. Disabled parking spaces are different than handicapped parking spaces, she said. These spaces will be bigger, to accommodate vans.
