Voters say no to Menahga School referendum
A ballot question to give Menahga School District the authority to issue $15.7 million in bonds for a construction project was narrowly defeated with 51.2 percent of the vote.
Vote totals were 792 no and 755 yes.
The district asked voters to approve a bond issue to add on to the school district's existing grades 7-12 facility. Proposed additions included including sixteen classrooms, a gymnasium and locker rooms. It also included renovations to the existing facility including kitchen renovation, redesign of existing classroom space, music room improvements, additional office space for school human resources staff and relocation of the elementary media center.
In the Menahga School Board election, incumbents Durwin Tomperi and Ernest Huhta Jr. and newcomer Andrea Haverinen were elected to three seats. Jon Kangas was defeated.
