West Fargo teacher Aaron Knodel suspended without pay

By Wendy Reuer / The Forum

WEST FARGO – The School Board here voted Monday to suspend an English teacher who faces felony charges for an alleged relationship with a student.

Board member Allan Skramstad asked that Aaron Knodel’s suspension without pay be taken off the consent agenda and a roll call vote taken.

The suspension was passed unanimously.

Knodel was charged Friday in Cass County District Court with five counts of corruption or solicitation of a minor. In a statement issued through his attorney, Knodel has denied the claims.

According to a memo from Superintendent David Flowers, Knodel has been on paid administrative leave since Feb. 14.

“The administration recommends, with advice of counsel, that he be suspended without pay or benefits, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation,” Flowers said in the memo.

Board member Dave Olson said he supports how the district has handled the investigation in the best interest of students and staff.

“I do support our district on what they have done in the past with regards to Aaron in a very difficult situation,” Olson said. “I believe our district has gone above and beyond what was expected of them.”

Knodel is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing Sept. 5.
