Century students assume the roles of military personnel to pay tribute to veterans before Veterans Day. This year, students honored each branch of the military in this year’s presentation – U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marines and U.S. Air Force.

The school rotates four programs that are changed each year. The three others include: honoring MIA/POWs, deceased veterans, living veterans and current solders; honoring soldiers in times of war and in times of peace; and honoring the flags of our fathers.

By having four different program themes, students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 will eventually be a part of all four programs.Park Rapids Century School student Jacob Stewart lights a candle in honor of veterans.

Park Rapids American Legion Honor Guard members also help with the Century Middle School Veterans Day program each year.

The school’s cafetorium is filled with members of the public who want to honor veterans each year. The program also includes music, including an instrumental ensemble playing the “Star Spangled Banner” and folding the flag while “Taps” is played.

The entire room sings “God Bless the USA” to conclude the program.
