Park Rapids DBA reviews 2011 promotions

More than 40 people attended the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association's annual meeting Jan. 18 at the Northwoods Bank community room.

At the end of the day, the group decided it will be a priority to do more events in 2012 in an effort to make Main Street and Park Rapids a destination for visitors and residents.

Kent Gustafson, retired University of Minnesota Tourism Center Extension professor, Gustafson Facilitation, conducted a morning session on event management and guided participants in identifying ideas.

Members volunteered to chair the following committees: Events - Uzi Monka, Advertising and Marketing - Dee Smith and Finance - Tony Bundy. Cynthia Jones will continue as chair of the executive committee in 2012. Also serving on the executive committee are vice chair Molly Luther, treasurer Tony Bundy, Butch DeLaHunt and Alan Zemek.

In 2011, the PRDBA promotions package was comprised of the Destination Downtown PR map (30,000 printed), Passport, flower baskets, banners, advertising and banner ads on the PRDBA website.

There was some discussion about the effectiveness of the PRDBA's efforts the past six years with Bundy, Jim Johnson, Katie Magozzi and Thom Peterson offering testimony that collective promotions have helped to make Main Street and Park Rapids a destination.

Membership in 2012 will be $50 with information about the promotions package forthcoming. To join, checks payable to the PRDBA may be sent to PO Box 142, Park Rapids, MN 56470.

The next PRDBA meeting will be at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Bella Caffé.
