A second Kelly's Cottage Garden has sprouted at Summerhill Farm, the offshoot a means of showcasing Kelly Sanquist's original greenhouse creations, garden antiques and area artists' work.

The original site of Sanquist's bedazzling floral arrangements on 209th Avenue east of Park Rapids - while well known to area gardeners - may go unnoticed by those from out of the area.

Customers told her they'd not seen anything comparable in Minnesota. They were arriving to photograph her artistic works in bloom.

Sanquist, who opened her business three years ago, decided her signature window boxes were ready for a larger audience.

"It's more visible," she said of the Summerhill Farm marketing initiative. And she was also eyeing another arena for her flying pigs (which sold out immediately), flock of metal chickens, unique iron stands for flower baskets and other garden accoutrements.

Sanquist saw Summerhill Farm as a venue for marketing other artists' work. "I enjoy working with artists," she said of admiring "their passion for what they do."

"This is the perfect place."

When the garden season passes, Sanquist plans to offer cut flowers and veggies, likely to begin in July.

Gardening, she said, is more than just flowers. "It's creating an ambiance."

Kelly's Cottage Garden at Summerhill Farm is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Summerhill Farm is located seven miles north of Park Rapids on Highway 71.

Sanquist has also begun offering custom floral arrangements for weddings, anniversaries and other occasions.

As with everything leaving her greenhouse, the creations are not mere flowers and greenery but signature works of art.
