Seip Drug, an independent pharmacy, has opened a prescription shop in J&B Foods, with familiar faces greeting clients.

Pharmacists Jackie Rehm and Kathy Monico are assisted by certified pharmaceutical technicians Jenny Avenson and Laurie Vad.

This is owner Nate Seip's eighth location, a call from storeowner Bob Hensel prompting his decision. "We're a good match," he said of the Hensels' independently-owned market. "I liked the business model and the store's way of doing business."

J&B, he said, has striven to create a one-stop shop. The pharmacy complements organic and health foods, diabetic goods, supplements and bariatric items.

J&B works with St. Joseph's Area Health Services staff to supply the products people need, Seip said.

And the store's signature sausages, bakery and deli did not go unnoticed when Seip was considering the venture. The pharmacy, he said, "is a natural."

Customers can drop off a prescription and retrieve it after completing their grocery shopping. A walk-up window on the building's exterior is in the planning stages with future plans calling for a drive-up window.

Pharmacy staff will handle a change in drug stores; a customer wishing to change pharmacies may simply contact Seip Drug.

The pharmacists offer consultation services, including medication therapy management. By appointment, a pharmacist will go over an individual's drug regimen and make recommendations to physicians, as necessary.

"It's beneficial health wise and financially," Rehm said, specifically for diabetics, asthmatics, geriatric clients and those with multiple health problems.

"It's a personal service to meet individual needs," Rehm said. "We offer competitive pricing and full service." The pharmacy offers delivery in the surrounding area or will mail prescriptions.

The full-line pharmacy accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare D and private insurance.

Seip Drug is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with a pharmacist on staff at all times.

Seip Drug stores are also located in New York Mills, Henning, Frazee, Detroit Lakes, Battle Lake, Perham and Moorhead.
