A Park Rapids man injured in a November crash on County Road 4 said he had no hard feelings toward the man who hit him head-on while under the influence.

“The incident caused me to lose a lot of sleep,” said Gary Korsgaden in Hubbard County District Court Friday afternoon. “But I have no hard feelings toward Cody.”

Cody Charles Olson, 21, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when his truck slid across the highway at 7:15 in the morning, striking Korsgaden’s vehicle.

Olson pled guilty earlier to Criminal Vehicular Operation resulting in bodily harm and a count of Careless Driving. He was given two concurrent 30-day sentences.

Both men were taken to the hospital after the crash.

Korsgaden learned that Olson had walked over to his examining room to check on him in the emergency room.

“That showed very good character,” Korsgaden said. “Things happen for a reason. The true tragedy is if we can’t learn from this. I wish the best for you.”

“I just want to apologize to Gary… I don’t know what to say,” said a remorseful Olson.

He will have to pay fines and costs of $685 and restitution of about $1,000.

He reported to jail Friday evening to begin serving his time. He was given credit for two days served.
