Century School receives state honor

Century Elementary, named a Celebration School by the Minnesota Department of Education, was officially recognized for the achievement this week at the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation (MAEF) conference.

The designation is based on the Multiple Measurement Ratings (MMR) for schools.

Under the state's MMR system, most of Minnesota's 2,000 public schools received an overall numerical ranking, but only about a quarter - those schools receiving federal poverty aid - got one of five designations: Reward, Celebration, Continuous Improvement, Focus and Priority.

"More than 100 Celebration Eligible schools applied for this distinction, Dr. Brenda Cassellius, Minnesota Education Commissioner, stated in a congratulatory letter to the school. "Your selection is a direct reflection of the gains your school has made and the tireless efforts you and your staff have directed toward improving outcomes for your students."

"The Century staff and students have worked hard," Park Rapids Schools Superintendent Lance Bagstad said. "This is a wonderful acknowledgement. Good things are happening in Park Rapids."
