Vets Views: VA Health Care web application give immediate access to medical files

The VA has developed an incredible personalized Health Care Web application. Recently the VA revamped the My HealtheVet site. This site is amazing! Now veterans have immediate access to their VA medical information and more.

My HealtheVet is a VA web-based personal health record that gives Veterans information and tools to improve their health. Veterans can (read only) access their VA medical records from home, can communicate directly with their medical team, and access more than 18 million pages of health information from the site's Health Education Library, plus much more.

I visited the site after being told the site was dramatically improved. I found that my information was there, it was accurate and most important even I could find what I was looking for.

The three most popular features are prescription management, e-mail with your medical team and finally tracking your health care. First is the Rx Refill feature. Once online you can see the list of your prescriptions and your prescriptions history. Refilling is requested by a click of the button. This results in your prescriptions being mailed to your home. Second is Get Care. You click on the communications link and up pops a link with the VA e-mail system. The link already has your VA Medical Teams e-mail address preloaded. You just have to write a note to the team addressing your concern. This could be a request for an appointment, a question about one of your medications, or a request to clarify your current condition plus much more. The third is Tracking your health care. You have read only access to your VA medical records. This is a convenient site that tracks your appointments along with recording the results of each of your visits. Imagine being able to log into this site to find your doctors notes and the lab results from the day before.

My HealtheVet is a secure site. You can find the site at Just click on the Quick List item titled My HealtheVet. Then follow the instructions to register your account. You can register for My HealtheVet from your home or come to my office or even better I can help you register. It takes only minutes. There is one catch. The account is set up in two stages. Once your basic account is established you will need to have the account verified at the VA Medical Center or a VA Clinic. You simply verify who you are by showing a picture ID and they will grant access to the remainder of your medical information. My HealtheVet has provided dozens of ways to manage your health care. Start tracking your health today!
