Death in Badger, Minn., ruled a homicide; man and woman in custody

A man and woman from Badger, Minn., are being held in the county jail in Roseau in connection with the homicide of a Badger man Saturday, said Sheriff Steve Gust today.

He said he's not releasing much information until family members of the victim have been notified, but that formal charges may be announced later today.

A 911 call about 11 a.m. Saturday came in from an apartment building in Badger, town of about 370 about 12 miles southwest of Roseau.

He's not looking for anyone else in connection with the homicide, Gust said.

He expects to be able to release more information later today.

The owner of the eight-unit apartment building where the victim of the homicide lived in Badger said the man arrested in his death lived in a separate apartment in the building.

The man who was killed worked at Polaris Industries.

"He actually was one of the better renters I've had," said the landlord, who asked that his name not be published. "He's lived there a little more than a year."

The apartment owner said he's gotten little information from the sheriff's office, he said.

The deceased man was in his early 30s and formerly lived in International Falls, where he has family, the man said.

A spokesman for Polaris said the company had received little information yet about the deceased employee and hadn't formally informed employees about it yet.

Michael Grover, the assistant county attorney, said as is typical in homicide cases, the county is being assisted by the state attorney general's office.

The two people arrested in connection with the homicide are scheduled to be appear in state district court Tuesday on the charges, which had not been formally filed by mid-afternoon Monday.

Grover said until the charges are formal, he was not releasing the names of the man and woman.
