Local filings closed Tuesday

The filing period for municipal and school district elections closed Tuesday, with many new candidates throwing their hats in the ring.

Those who have filed include:

n In Park Rapids, incumbent Nancy Carroll has filed for mayor, along with Pat Mikesh, who is currently a city council member. Incumbent David W. Konshok and Rod Nordberg, Dick Rutherford and Joel Vorhes have filed for two four-year terms.

n Incumbent Park Rapids Area School Board members Sherry Safratowich, Dave Otterness and Gary Gauldin have filed for the three four-year terms.

n Former Nevis Council member Rick Carson has filed for mayor. Incumbent mayor Paul Schroeder initially said he would not run, but "has had a change of heart." He filed for the two-year mayoral position Tuesday.

Candidates vying for the two four-year positions on the Nevis Council are incumbent Heidi Schmeichel, Tom Frank and Janie Creger.

n Incumbents Ed Becker and Jeannette Dudley, who was appointed to the Nevis School Board, have filed as have Kindra Walker-Kuklock and Justin Isaacson. Nevis School District voters will elect three to serve four-year terms.

n In Akeley, incumbent Jennifer Mitchell and Jerry Tatro are vying for the mayor position.

Troy Hegg has filed for the four-year council term. Terry Chalich, Kevin Gentry, Trygve Karl, Dan Riggs and Donald Sabinske have filed for the pair of two-year terms created by resignations.

n In Menahga, incumbent Pat Foss has filed for mayor and incumbent councilwoman Kim Rasmussen and Mike Rogers have filed for two four-year terms.

n Six people have filed for Menahga School Board. Durwin Tomperi and Tim Ellingson will run for the two-year term. Brad Goehrig, Daniel Rippentrop, Al Peterson and Curtis Hasbargen are vying for three four-year terms.
