Heroin charge filed for Detroit Lakes woman

A Detroit Lakes woman made her first appearance July 25 in Becker County District court on a felony drug possession charge.

Summer Brook Nason, 21, of 911 West Willow Ave., Detroit Lakes, is also facing two misdemeanor counts of fourth degree driving while intoxicated in connection with a July 24 incident on County Road 21 in Becker County.

A suspect vehicle was stopped at around 4:45 p.m. after an officer observed it weaving all over the road, according to the complaint. The driver, identified as Nason, showed several signs of impairment, including water, bloodshot eyes, and difficulty keeping her eyes open.

When the officer asked to see her driver's license, she first presented a bank transaction card before realizing her mistake and producing the license.

When Nason opened her wallet to take out the license, the officer observed the plunger of a hypodermic needle sticking out of it.

The officer also noted that Nason was shaking uncontrollably and was not capable of taking field sobriety tests at the scene. There were also two packets of an unknown substance that were spotted sticking out of her bra, and later NIK-tested positive as containing heroin.

Nason has been released on her own recognizance pending her next court appearance, at an Aug. 27 omnibus hearing.
