Victim of Colorado shooting has ties to Larimore, ND

Christina Blache

Christina Blache, one of the 58 people wounded in the mass shooting July 20 in a Colorado movie theatre, and who was with one of the 12 killed, attended high school in Larimore, N.D.

Blache and her twin sister, Jacque Blache, spent their freshman and sophomore years in Larimore High School, said Melissa Sjostrom, of East Grand Forks.

The twins, who earlier attended junior high in Emerado, N.D., moved away and didn't graduate with the rest of the class of 2000, said Sjostrom. But she keeps up with Jacque Blache through Facebook, Sjostrom said.

Jacque told the Herald Tuesday via email that her family moved to England in November 1997, following her mother who was in the Air Force.

She's is raising money for her sister, "Tina," who has no health insurance, by posting on

A bullet from the shooter destroyed much of one of Christina's knee and also passed into her other leg, according to Jacque.

Her sister has had several surgeries and now needs to heal. A "spider fracture" in a leg bone means she won't be able to walk for a month, said her sister.

Tina attended the movie with several friends, said Jacque Blache. "They've all been injured, some seriously and one who sadly passed away -- Alex Sullivan."

Although some hospitals treating the victims without health insurance have promised they won't face steep medical bills, it's not entirely clear what will be covered, Jacque Blache said. Besides, her sister will need financial help while she recuperates for several months and is unable to work, she wrote on the website.

Her goal is 20,000 pounds (Jacque Blache still lives in England) or about $31,000.

Several days ago, members of the Denver Broncos football team surrounded Blache's hospital bed, including UND's Chris Kuper, according to a photo posted on Blache's fundraising webpage.

According to the Denver Post, Blache's father, Robert Blache, and Christina together watched video clips of the shooter, James Holmes, during his court appearance last week.

"He doesn't look surprised at any of it, but he seemed amazed at what was happening," Robert Blache told the Post. "I'm pretty sure he's not sane."
