Celebrate Independence Day!

Numerous lakes held boat parades Wednesday morning. These folks were all decked out on Long Lake. (Sarah Smith / Enterprise)

The boat parades are under way, the Hubbard County Fair starts today, the PBR bull ride starts tonight, the flags are waving and the festivities are in full swing in and around Park Rapids.

And a potpourri of unstable weather surrounds the region, still recovering from Monday night's storm.

Stifling heat and chances of thunderstorms abound.

The DNR has temporarily closed La Salle State Recreation Area and urges limited visitation of Itasca State Park due to heavy storm damage.

But fireworks stands are booming, figuratively, not literally, and traffic is heavy throughout the lakes region.

The Park Rapids parade begins at 5 p.m. with a charitable pie auction following downtown.

The concert begins at 7: 30 p.m. in Red Bridge Park followed by a fireworks show.
