Backus man sentenced for violating predatory offender registration requirements

A Backus man was sentenced Friday for violating predatory offender registration requirements and burglary.

According to Cass County Attorney, Christopher J. Strandlie, 69-year-old Robert Arthur Litzau was sentenced for felony crimes occurring in the Pine River/Backus area in May 2010.

District Court Judge John G. Melbye sentenced Litzau to serve two years in prison with credit for time served.

Melbye also imposed a 10-year conditional release period because Litzau is a Level 3 Predatory Offender. If Litzau fails to comply with conditions of his release from prison, he could again be returned to prison.

Litzau continues to be subject to Predatory Offender Registration requirements.

After a three-day trial, Litzau was convicted this past October.

This was Litzau's second conviction for violating registration requirements. He was convicted of a similar offense in Crow Wing County in 2009.

Litzau also has current charges pending in Crow Wing County for a subsequent registration violation and obstructing the legal process with force.
