Community councils may combine

Mahube Community Council, Inc., and Otter Tail-Wadena Community Action Council, Inc., announced that they have entered conversations with each other to explore the opportunities for creating one Community Action Agency to serve the five counties of Becker, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Otter Tail and Wadena.

Many residents in this five-county area are familiar with the impressive history of these two private, non-profit Community Action Agencies that have positively impacted people's lives and strengthened local communities for many years. For more than 46 years, Mahube Community Council has worked to fight poverty and be an advocate for low-income and elderly people living in Mahnomen, Hubbard and Becker counties -- promoting self-sufficiency, family stability and community revitalization. For the same length of time, Otter Tail-Wadena Community Action Council has worked to accomplish the same for people living in Otter Tail and Wadena counties.

Discussions now between these two agencies will explore ways to work together in a single organization to deliver effective, quality services and to maximize resources in the five-county area. Both agencies are very excited about the possibilities in redesigning how these important services are delivered to people in local communities, and in so doing, making certain that their work to fight poverty has a long and solid future in these five counties.

People living in poverty will be a beacon for these discussions, and any plan for transition will be designed in such a way as to serve clients with effective and seamless services, always seeking to provide the highest quality programming with collaborative community partners.
