Planning under way for Community Christmas Dinner

Volunteers are gearing up for the annual Community Christmas Dinner in Park Rapids.

Hundreds came to the Park Rapids American Legion to dine in 2010. Last year 150 dinners were delivered to those who couldn't come.

"Denny Anderson and I have heard stories about the great need in our community," said co-organizer Lynn Spilman. "We would like to encourage anyone needing a dinner please call the American Legion at 732-5238 where they have sign up sheets for home deliveries."

Spilman encouraged community members who might have a shut-in neighbor to either bring that person to the dinner with them or take a meal to go.

"We are capable of many more deliveries," she said.

The meal is served for a good will donation, but Spilman said early donations always help.

They can be mailed to the Community Christmas Dinner at the American Legion Post 212, PO Box 143, Park Rapids, MN 56470.

And although dozens of "holiday elves" volunteer to work at the event, more are always welcome.

Spilman said volunteers can call her at 732-8250 to help out on the 23rd, 24th or 25th.

Last year 500 were served. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
