LaSalle SRA open house is tonight

The Minnesota DNR Division of Parks and Trails will hold an open house tonight, Thursday, Dec. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the pool building at La Salle Lake State Recreation Area (SRA).

The open house is the first step in the process to create a master plan to guide development and operations at La Salle Lake SRA. Those interested in providing input to the master plan development or learning more about the new SRA are encouraged to drop in anytime during the open house.

The master plan will set the management and operation directions for La Salle Lake SRA for next 15 to 20 years. It will include recommendations for managing natural and cultural resources, and for providing recreational and interpretative opportunities to visitors.

La Salle Lake SRA was authorized by the Minnesota State Legislature during the 2011 legislative session. The majority of the funding for the acquisition came from the 2008 Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment through a grant from the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council. Acquisition by the DNR was completed in late October.

The 1,000-acre property includes the entire shoreline of La Salle Lake, a 221-acre lake that is 213 feet deep. The property is currently open for limited day use including hiking, wildlife viewing, fishing, hunting and trapping. A water access to the lake is also open, but has limited parking. Other facilities include a campground, indoor swimming pool and several cabins, which are currently closed to the public.

La Salle Lake SRA is located eight miles north of Itasca State Park on Hubbard County Road 9.
