A Ponsford man was arrested Wednesday morning following a brief high speed chase and crash through a residential Park Rapids neighborhood.

Michael Benjamin Goodman, 23, was arrested after a brief ground search. Charges are pending, but he had an active search warrant out for him at the time. Goodman was allegedly involved in a high-speed pursuit last month leaving Zorbaz pizzeria in Dorset, County Attorney Don Dearstyne said. Charges are pending in that incident as well. Dearstyne said Goodman fled on foot last week and a search on County Road 81 produced no results.

The incident Wednesday began around 10:20 a.m. south of the hospital and clinic. It ended on Front and 10th Street a few blocks south when the car crashed in a residential area.

"He just came flying by and then there was an officer following him," resident Pat Monson said. "I knew he couldn't make the curve at the speed he was going."

The suspect fled on foot, prompting a platoon of officers from the Park Rapids Police Department, Nevis police, Hubbard County Sheriff and State Patrol to comb the neighborhood.

Charges are pending, including the possibility that the car involved in the chase had been stolen.

Goodman has a lengthy criminal record.
