The quaint Lake George post office is one of 88 Minnesota Postal Services outlets targeted to close or be converted to a "village outlet."

The Postal Services has been looking at operations of thousands of 3,500 outlets nationally and Tuesday announced numerous closures.

It is a blow to a small community experiencing a revival and couldn't be timed worse. The town's annual Blueberry Festival starts Friday.

Thousands of people flock to the small village where a regular tourist occurrence takes place - visitors posing in front of the post office.

The Lake George outlet is the only one in the Hubbard County region to be targeted for further scrutiny. Postmaster Iris Olson has long known her tiny building was one of the services being studied.

"It's a wait and see" process, Olson said Wednesday morning. "There will be a feasibility study to see if services can be offered in a more efficient way in Lake George. We don't actually know if we're closing."

The Ponsford post office is also scheduled to close or undergo a conversion.
