19-year-old Fargo man dies day after dump-truck crash

FARGO - A 19-year-old Fargo man injured in an Interstate 29 crash Thursday has died.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-29, near mile marker 68.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol:

Jesus Emanuel Gonzalez was on his way from Fargo to Harwood in a dump truck when he pulled off to the shoulder.

Gonzalez had gotten out to inspect his truck when an RV, driven by Roger Beiswenger of Fisher, Minn., approached.

At the same time, another vehicle was passing the RV in the left lane. Beiswenger said he felt a gust of wind move his vehicle toward the dump truck as he attempted to pass and he struck the rear of the truck.

The RV was pulling a small SUV behind it, which detached during the accident and ended up in the east ditch with heavy front-end damage.

Beiswenger said he was going between 55 and 65 mph when he attempted to pass Gonzalez's truck.

Emergency responders performed CPR and administered first aid to the injured driver before he was taken to Sanford Health by ambulance. Gonzalez later died.

Beiswenger was not injured in the crash.

Weather conditions at time of crash were sunny and windy with gusts of about 35 mph.
