SKYWARN class will be held May 2 in Park Rapids

The Hubbard County Emergency Management Office, in cooperation with the National Weather Service will be hosting a SKYWARN® storm spotter course from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 2 in the Law Enforcement Center Conference Room, and is open to all members of the local community.

National Weather Service encourages anyone with an interest in public service and access to communication, such HAM radio, to join the SKYWARN® program. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.

The course will cover the basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features and information to report.
