'Black One Clap for Zach' in this Saturday's doubleheader
There will be more at stake in Saturday's (Feb. 5) Detroit Lakes and Perham basketball doubleheader than a pair of wins and losses for the Lakers and Yellowjackets.
A spectacular show of unity will be on display for fallen Perham basketball player Zach Gabbard, who collapsed during a game a couple of weeks ago and still remains in critical, but stable, condition at the University of Minnesota hospital.
Saturday's doubleheader will start with the Laker girls' basketball team (8-9) facing the 14-2 Yellowjackets, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The boys will take to the floor as a clash between two talent teams will feature the No. 9 Class 2A ranked Perham squad, which stands at 15-1, going up against the Lakers, which post a 12-4 mark.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Four of the Laker boys' players and four Perham players have been summer basketball teammates since fourth grade -- including Gabbard -- on a team coached by Yellowjacket head boys' coach Dave Cresap.
During warm-ups, both teams will be wearing black t-shirts with "Black One Clap for Zach" in honor of Gabbard.
It is also being asked for all fans to wear black, as well, to show their support. T-shirts will also be on sale at the game or an individual can purchase one at HYPERLINK "http://www.oneclapforzach.com" www.oneclapforzach.com.
The Laker Booster Club will be hosting a turkey sandwich feed all day long, with proceeds benefiting the Gabbard family. Ninth grade and junior varsity games start earlier in the day.
There will be halftime games to help raise funds for the Gabbard family, as well.
