Nevis liquor store sees earnings in September; in the black overall

The Nevis liquor store continues to see black, reporting earnings of $1,244 in September, $15,774 year to date.

This compares with negative earnings of $600 in September 2009, a net change of more than 300 percent.

This may be attributed to the customer incentives that continue with a German-Fest Cuisine Night Monday, Oct. 18. Customers are invited to bring a dish "or just come and be impressed."

A soup contest is on the docket in November.

Oct. 20 is the kick-off for Wednesday night bingo, with games starting at 6 p.m.

In other action, the council:

n Accepted a compromise agreement with Kent Priebe, the owner of property on 115 Highway 34, regarding a water hook-up to the residence.

The city is allowing Priebe to continue without connecting to the municipal water system unless the property is sold, re-financed, rented, or there's a title change.

"The ball's been dropped," council member Paul Schroeder said of the 20-year-old mistake. "This is a compromise."

If Priebe does not formally agree to the "more amicable solution," the city may proceed with legal action.

n Tabled action on approving funds appropriated from the Nevis Firepersons Relief Fund for Jaws of Life pending further information.

n Learned the cemetery fence has been fixed, the source "anonymous."

n Agreed to leave the city dump open until Monday, Oct. 18 for leaf and branch disposal.
