LWV to sponsor candidate forum Tuesday

The public is invited to Meet the Candidates Night from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Hubbard County Courthouse board meeting room, sponsored by the Park Rapids League of Women Voters.

This will be a two-part candidate forum.

Fielding audience questions from 6 to 7:20 p.m. will be Don Dearstyne and Nathaniel Welte, candidates for Hubbard County Attorney; Frank Homer and Cory Aukes, candidates for Hubbard County Sheriff; and Greg Larson and Floyd Frank, candidates for Hubbard County Commissioner Dist. 3. Commissioner Dist. 3 covers the east side of the city of Park Rapids, and Straight River, Hubbard Crow Wing Lake Badoura and White Oak townships.

Participants in the second part of the forum, which will start at 7:30 p.m. will be Dist. 2 State Sen. Rod Skoe, and Republican challenger Dennis Moser, both of Clearbrook, and Dist. 2B State Rep. Brita Sailer, Park Rapids, and challenger Dave Hancock, Republican-endorsed candidate from Bemidji. Senate Dist. 4 and House Dist. 4 B include the western half of Hubbard County.

The audience is asked to submit written questions to the candidates. Pencil and paper will be provided or bring your questions with you. The questions will be collected, screened by League members and asked by a moderator.

The League is sponsoring this and other candidate forums to educate the public about issues in the campaigns, provide an opportunity for voters to hear candidates discuss those issues face-to-face, stimulate public interest and participation in the elections and provide an opportunity for the candidates to engage their constituents.

The audience will be invited to stay for coffee and cookies following the event.
