Nitrate testing clinic to be held in Park Rapids Friday

The Hubbard County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture will be holding their annual Free Nitrate Testing Clinic on Friday July 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The clinic will be held in the Environmental Education Building at the Hubbard County Fairgrounds.

For each sample participants should bring approximately two cups of water in a Ziploc bag or other sterilized container. Participants may bring in as many samples as they like but are encouraged to bring at least one sample directly from their main drinking well prior to the water running through any filter, water softener, or treatment system.

If anyone has questions about the clinic or needs directions to the fairgrounds call the Hubbard County SWCD at 732-0121.

Sunday, July 25

A Haiti outreach benefit dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at Our Lady of the Pines parish hall.

The menu includes roast pork, cooked on site by Dave Luedke on site, cheesy potatoes, buns, coleslaw, desserts and beverages.

Hubbard United Methodist Church will dedicate its new organ at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 25 with the public invited to attend at no charge. Rev. Laurie Kantonen, the church's new minister, will welcome those in attendance.

Jim Hockin, guest organist, will play a varied concert on the Rodgers Signature 229 Organ, including works by Mozart, Bach, Haydn and an U.S. Armed Forces Tribute.

Hockin, who has been a piano soloist with the Minneapolis Symphony and Lake Harriet Orchestras, has studied organ with Edward D. Berryman. He recently retired from dental practice.

The Rodgers Signature Model 229 organ incorporates sound space technology, allowing the organist to select room sizes and wall types to create acoustic depth and realism, much like 3-D stereo.

The organ can be set to play pedal voices automatically so a pianist can comfortably play the organ without having to use the pedals. This organ utilizes USB memory stick technology for storage of sound settings. Performances may be recorded and re-played at a later time.

A reception will follow the concert.
