Rod Nordberg has been selected to fill a temporary Park Rapids City Council seat while Dave W. Konshok is deployed to Afghanistan with his U.S. Air Force unit.

Nordberg wrote a letter to the council expressing interest in the temporary position, along with Dick Rutherford and Kimberly Jokela. Both Nordberg and Rutherford have attended meetings regularly and were present at Tuesday's meeting. Jokela did not attend Tuesday's meeting.

In his letter to the council, Nordberg said he moved to Park Rapids with his family in 1948 and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1957. He returned to Park Rapids in 1997 to help his mother move to Heritage Living Center and has since lived in the family home.

He listed his volunteer work and interest in the downtown redevelopment. He has worked with several area organizations, including the Northern Light Opera Company, Hubbard County Historical Society, Red Bridge Film Festival, Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council and the All-School Reunion.
