Lake Emma Township offering grants for conservation projects

Lake Emma Township is offering Healthy Lakes Partnership grants to lake associations and conservation groups whose mission is to preserve the quality of Lake Emma Township lakes and fish and wildlife habitat.

Funding will be provided for projects such as shoreland habitat improvement, shoreland restoration, inventorying and assessment, aquatic invasive species prevention and outreach and education regarding lake health.

Funds are available to organizations, not private citizens, for projects that will take place in 2010.

Project expenses for organizations that need additional funding will be available through the grant program at a two-to-one match. (For every $1 contributed by Lake Emma Township, the applicant must match 50 cents toward the project.)

Grantee match can include in-kind labor (estimated at $12 per hour for unskilled activities). Maximum grant dollars budgeted for 2010 are $5,000. Projects must take place within Lake Emma Township.

Applications will be reviewed by the advisory board and resource specialists who will make recommendations for funding to the township board.

Eligible projects will be evaluated on a project work plan, approval from a regulatory agency, coordination with local water plan task force, evidence of community support, long term maintenance (where applicable) and benefit to the township.

Grant recipients will be notified following the April township board meeting.

Applications are due March 1. Grant application information is available at or by contacting Nancy Bogaard, township clerk, at 17358 County 40, Park Rapids, MN 56470; e-mail at or call 732-5617.
