Benefit planned for still-missing man

Peter Achermann

Peter Achermann of Leader, a Central Lakes College (Brainerd Community College) alumnus, mysteriously disappeared on July 24 about 4 miles north of Staples. He is still missing after exhaustive searching.

Achermann has no dementia nor Alzheimer's. He is a very healthy 82-year-old man who spends his days helping others.

"Peter provided great contributions to discussions in the class," said Fritz Bertelt, an English instructor at CLC and one of Achermann's former instructors. "His life experiences brought immeasurable value to the course. It truly saddened me when I heard that an alumnus from our CLC family had gone missing."

Dr. Larry Lundblad, CLC president, said: "Mr. Achermann's many friends and acquaintances at Central Lakes College are distressed by his disappearance. A number of our students, faculty, and staff have been involved in the search. As an alum, Mr. Achermann has a special place in the hearts of his instructors and fellow alumni. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

CLC instructors Dar and Ron Houle of Merrifield have been actively searching for Achermann since his disappearance. They are helping coordinate an Oct. 24 benefit at the Bear's Den, Leader, to raise funds to cover continued search costs.

A spaghetti buffet starts at noon. A silent auction along with raffles and games will be available throughout the afternoon. A live auction will be 1-4 p.m.
