If you haven't seen frost on the pumpkin yet, you will by morning, when temps will drop into the 20s.

Hubbard County and most of the region are in a frost advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

"Is this October or November?" laughed NWS meteorologist Jim Kaiser in the department's Grand Forks office.

Friday night there's a 40 percent chance of snow in the county, he said.

"I don't think we'll get an inch," but the snowfall will cover the ground, he said.

Ironically, an El Nino pattern is still overhead, he said. That's a warming of the Pacific ocean that rises to the air currents and was what brought the area record warm temperatures last month.

"El Nino can be overridden by a couple circulations," Kaiser said. "This early October signal is stronger than El Nino" ad is bringing the cold weather.

Average normal highs for this time of October are in the 60s, he said, but quickly drop to the 50s by mid-October.

Kaiser said it's too early to tell if the region will see another warming effect from El Nino later this month or this fall.
