Wendy's closure remains a mystery

Nobody seems to know what happened to the old Wendy's on First Street South.

"One day the doors were just locked," said Mary Wickersham, an employee of the nearby Thrifty White Drug, who used to head over to the fast-food restaurant for the occasional quick meal.

The restaurant has been closed since at least the beginning of May.

Willmar city planner Megan Sauer said that no one has yet presented any applications to the city for a change of use for the property. The current listed owner was unavailable for comment.

Larry Holmgren of Holmgren Sign was sure of at least one thing on Wednesday as he operated the lift carrying Aaron Holmgren onto the roof: "We're here to take down the signs," he said.

"That's all we know."
